Wondering about text direction

#1

For once, I’ve found an editor that actually does this correctly. I use shortcuts (like what TextExpander does) for emoticons and such, and some of them use characters that map as a RTL character. Unfortunately, this means most editors freak out and make the caret display in crazy ways. However, on Sublime Text, this does NOT happen; the caret displays as normal, acting as if the character is not different to the LTR characters. My question is what preferences affect this behavior, because in case there’s updates that do affect this, I’d like to have a way to make it so it won’t make the caret act like it’s backwards. Any help is appreciated

I will note that only one set of characters looks a bit off. Copy this in a file and tell me if it looks strange for any of you:
=͟͟͞͞ =͟͟͞͞ ヘ( ●▽●)ノ
Here’s how it looks in Sublime Text for me:

Normally, it would look like this:

It’s not that big of an issue, but some insight would be nice as to why this happens.
