Where is the ST3 stable release?

#1

Why is the official and stable version of Sublime Text 3 taking over 3 years to release? Would love to buy it, but not sure what the road map is here. Current status makes it an issue to worry about when making the leap to pay into the app.

Currently the ST2 license also gets you ST3, of which the latest stable release is from earlier this year. sublimetext.com/3
At this point 3 is a clear improvement over 2. It is unclear when 3 will be finalized and an upgraded license will be required, but until that time, for all intents and purposes, it has already been released.

Appreciate the insight but the website still says “Sublime Text 3 is currently in beta”

Good things come to those who wait.

Long term sublime users are used to the indefinite “beta” label. I’ve been using the development builds for years and they are very stable. I agree it’s frustrating how little the company communicates and not knowing a roadmap or timeline.

Buying sublime to get access to version 3 beta I think is worth the cost. (Opinion)

A license is only required for the Dev releases of ST3, you can use the ST3 beta just fine without one and in fact I discourage everyone from still using ST2 since ST3 is clearly the better version right now and has been for years.

Sublime Text itself has only had a handful of stable releases since I started using it, which was more than 3 years ago.

I can definitely understand why this is confusing for newcomers.

Wait for how long?

If you are acting as a proxy for JPS, please learn to accept criticism as well. Deleting posts on the pretext of irrelevance just because you are a moderator if ridiculous. Can you explain the relevance of your post where you were begging people to vote for you for young developer of the year?[/quote]

I’m no proxy, I just moderate. I very rarely speak to JPS.

I’ve not deleted any posts unless they’re marked as spam? There was one, which was out of line, if I remember correctly.

In regards to Young Developer, there was no begging, I solely asked

Depends on what you’re waiting for. You don’t have to wait at all for a stable build of ST3, it’s right there. You do have to wait for a build to be labeled “release”, and there is no roadmap for that. I share your annoyance at that, but I can remember quite a few products that have stayed in indefinite beta for years that were superior to alternatives and very stable.

The situation is not optimal and jps isn’t communicating much, but you can’t expect everyone to feel the same level of frustration about it.

This bit of advice may not be worth much, but I think it applies to Sublime Text more than most other paid-for software:

Only buy software if what is available today will make you happy (or at least satisfied) with the purchase.
