What does this code mean?

#1

A recruiter gives me this code

530ee7db84a975caf2c70d0d0a2698e9

he says it’s kind of glue or a key for next step of recruitment. So what this might be? He also mention about RESTful and decoding stuff. I think I need to decode the that string. Does anyone know what encryption he used?

I’m not much into a job but very interested in this recruiting trick.

It means they are looking for a puzzle solver, not a programmer. Man I wish they would just ask direct questions to determine if you are competent, and not a master riddle solver or mind reader.

Even if you knew the encryption type you don’t have a key, so you can’t decrypt it.

It might just be a 256-bit session or user-authorization key. If it’s REST-related, it might be the record key you get back from the server after doing a POST.

He’s obviously applied for a management post where instead of doing any work for himself he gets others to do it all.

Agreed.

My best recommendation for @agoago would to simply walk away. It’s not about whether or not one is able to solve the riddle. It’s whether one accepts being played with. Let’s just talk to each other instead and see if there’s a fit.

(Unless, of course, the job is breaking codes at NSA. In that case it might be a very valid question to ask a candidate.)

Not without context imho.
