User preferences on Linux doesn't work

I’m running Ubuntu 11.10 and have been trying to edit my preferences file, but Sublime returns an error message saying,“Unable to save ~/.config/sublime-text-2/Packages/User/Preferences.sublime-settings.” Thoughts? Should I upgrade Ubuntu?

That sounds like a permissions issue. Check that you have read/write permission for the file/folders.
