The tab that gets selected when a tab is closed

When we close a tab then the tab to its left gets selected. That tab might be one that I have not looked at for a long time and that is distracting.
Is there a way to change it such that the most recent tab gets selected?
(We cant make this by then automatically doing a ctrl-tab: yes that would activate the most recent tab but then that old tab will be made second-most-recent so we will see it again as soon as we ctrl-tab.)

The TabsExtra package comes with such an event listener to activate the last active view, too.

That is good to know too. I think the first solution is enough for me, but maybe others will want to use TabsExtra.
