TabStack: An alternative take on tab switching with live preview

#1

After being reminded of the forum in my issues page, I would like to use this opportunity to announce the 1.3.0 release of my latest package: TabStack.

Its purpose is to provide an alternative way for switching to a recently used tab with an MRU-based stack, support for multi-sheet selection, and a live visualization of this “stack” in form of a quick panel. Just hold the Ctrl key and hit Tab or Shift+Tab until you arrived at the file you want to switch to – then release Ctrl. I will let a short clip do the rest of the talking.

You will find the UX to be similar to those of web browsers or Windows itself.

The latest release brings native support for Wayland, which requires a small workaround because of its secure design. You can find more details in the README or when you try to use it on Wayland for the first time.

You can install the package via Package Control under the name “TabStack” and in GitHub: https://github.com/SublimeText/TabStack. It requires an ST build of 4100 or higher (which is every stable ST4 release).

Nice one. An MRU stack is the thing I always missed coming from browsers, and the live preview while holding Ctrl makes it much less of a guessing game. Does the stack span all windows, or is it per window? Most of us at aicost.tools run two or three ST windows side by side, so that decides whether I switch from the default Ctrl+Tab.

The stack is per-group, so if you use a 2-column layout it will only display the tabs on either the left or the right column, depending on where your focus was.
