For my environment I use GIT_AUTHOR_NAME and GIT_COMMITTER_NAME environment variables instead of user.name and user.email configured within ~/.gitconfig.
Sublime Merge prompts me for my name and email when I start the program with options to store this globally or locally.
None of these option work for my workflow and I need .gitconfig to remain unpersonalized with author names and emails. Please support GIT_ Environment variables https://git-scm.com/book/en/v2/Git-Internals-Environment-Variables
