Subtree File History

Have a monorepo build out of individual repositories added as subtree. Subtrees were added without squash and history exists. Pulling file history is inconsistent, and sometimes does not bridge the date when it was added, simetimes only returns file history since may of last year (monorepo formed in september last year). Terminal line command that works consistently is git log --oneline -m --follow -- path/to/file;
