Sublime text on mac won't quit, opens a temp text file instead

everytime i try to quit sublime text, it goes away briefly and then comes back with a text file open like this

filename subl stdin <random string>.txt
inside the file, it would say 00

this file sits in tmp folder in /private/tmp/

and it gets created when i try to quit

My guess is there’s another application or process launching Sublime Text. Either that or a plugin.
