Hi,
After migrating all apps to a new iMac, I find that my valid and licensed Sublime Text 2 won’t work under MacOS 12.16.1 (Monterey). OK, I downloaded the latest version which launches OK.
My problem is with licensing. I cannot locate the licence number on the v2 because I cannot launch it.
I can find no reference to this valid license anywhere.
Do I need to purchase a new license? If so, this seems a bit mean as the v2 license is less than 3 years from date of purchase.
Any advice most welcome, thanks!
Sublime Text Build 4143 Licensing problem
Even the last ST 2 release is almost 10 years ago. How come you can buy a ST 2 license within recent 3 years?
As for retrieving lost license: https://www.sublimehq.com/store/retrieve_key
I doubt a ST 2 license will work on ST 4 though.
OK, many thanks for getting back to me.
Yes, I guess on reflection it’s way more than 3 years since my original purchase.
I’ll go buy a new licence now; well worth the layout
Do note that using a valid license even if only valid for previous versions still has some benefits like disabling the nag.
I know that’s true for ST 3, but don’t know that even apply to ST 2 Removing the nag is “enough” for most people I guess.
The problem remains that ST2 will not work under MacOS Monterey (OS 12.16.1), so I have no recourse other than to uograde to this latest version (ST4). I’ve done this and I’m back into business.
Very many thanks to all that have responded

fwiw this is the case for all/most macOS software; Apple breaks backwards compatibility often and thus apps need frequent maintenance to keep up. ST2 still works on Linux and Windows (ST1 works under wine on Linux, presumably windows too).
Absolutely agree. Apple is notorious for this lack of “backwards compatability”. When Apple abandoned 32 bit support many of my (expensive) apps failed to launch. Eg, a purchased Photoshop CS6 which I’ve relied on for a very long time suddenly bit the dust.
Still I’m content with ST4 albeit at an acceptible outlay.
Again, thanks.
