Sublime Text 3 Performance Issues - How to troubleshoot?

#1

Out of the blue I’ve started having some severe performance issues with Sublime Text 3, freezing for minutes at a time, difficulty saving, and just general non-responsiveness. Quite frustrating after a large batch of edits and getting a freeze on save.

At this point, I don’t have much of pattern, and it seems like there is a long list of potential culprits (OS, plugins, etc.).

Are there any general tips for troubleshooting performance issues with Sublime Text 3? Anything that would help me narrow this down to a particular cause, plugin, or anything else that could be misbehaving?

Sigh, I’m really getting bogged down. Any tips? Help?

I know about the console, problem is if it’s frozen, I can’t open the console. Is there any log files, crash reports, or monitoring tools I can use to figure this out?

For the moment it seems I can just quit and restart, but that’s getting very old very quickly.

Well, reverting to a clean state (sublimetext.com/docs/3/revert.html) and then installing one package at a time while testing should get you to the end result you are looking for.

Usually the issues you describe are related to a package that is misbehaving, or trying to edit files over a remote filesystem like samba, sshfs, etc.

in further testing it appears that all that’s misbehaving is the graphics rendering, i can keep typing and doing actions, and after quitting and restarting st3 all the keystrokes i took are visible

@wbond, sounds like there isn’t much i can do troubleshoot then, guess clean install and a prayer :frowning:
