Sublime not running after recent update (Sep 2025)

#1

Hi there,

Running on Ubuntu (22.04, 64-bit), I accepted the Sublime Text update yesterday, and now clicking the desktop icon yields a loading wheel and then nothing.

which subl still finds the subl command (it gives /snap/bin/subl), but executing subl or subl --version gives cannot snap-exec: cannot exec "/snap/sublime-text/215/opt/sublime_text/sublime_text": exec format error.

I have restarted the computer in case that matters. I also uninstalled Sublime Text using the Ubuntu Software GUI and reinstalled it using the same GUI, and same results of not being able to run Sublime Text.

Is there a bug in the most recent update? Anyone else seeing this behavior? Any fixes?

sublimehq doesn’t provide nor support snap packages due to various limitations they come with.

Those snap packages are created by a 3rd party, you’ll have to reach out for resolution.

Official ST and SM packages from https://www.sublimetext.com/download work perfectly well on Ubuntu 22.04 or 25.04.

Someone has recently reported this bug to the packagers.

I use the deb package mostly myself (and Mac version), but I have this snap installed on several computers I don’t want to spend much time configuring and it usually works well.

Edit: If you had the Sublime Text snap installed before this update you can run snap revert sublime-text to go back to the previous version.

Edit 2: Resolved
