ST4 not responding under Ubuntu VPN samba share

Hi All

Like to work directly on the server for development and ST is one of the only development editors that allow this. But when I work via a Ubuntu samba share through OpenVPN I experience very long delays and some time I even get a dialog that the app is non responsive and if I like to terminate etc.

I have tried to make a reset by removing the settings and cache files in my home folder. Also upgraded the program a couple of times.

This has not always been the case but has appeared the last year or so. This may also be related to the OS?

Under Windows it seam to work fine this way.

Any way to improve on this as the current situation is not acceptable.

Can you share the specifics of your setup? Is ST installed locally and only the files you’re editing are remote? Note that dialogs generally use GTK; do you see the same delay with other applications like gedit?

Ubuntu 10.04 LTS using build in OpenVPN support to a Linksys dual WAN 244 router as OpenVPN server.

ST4 is installed locally and only the edit files are remote. I see no delay problems if I edit the same remote files with gedit.

If the ST window is active (in front) the delays are not so bad (not good). If I work in another program and return to ST it is with very long delays for a long time.

NB: I have 16 Gb mem and almost no other running programs

I recall that about the program being more responsive when in front - looks more like random luck :frowning:
