ST4 crashes after closing settings or preferences

I am using ST4 Build 4107 on Ubuntu 18.04.

When I open and close most settings under preferences, ST4 crashes upon closing the window, regardless of any already open files or windows. I am not clear if this has something to do with the group that is created when displaying the default and user file settings or not, but I cannot seem to duplicate the effect unless I choose to display a settings group.

I am not sure if there is a connection, but prior to this happening, I experimented with changing encoding to DOS CP437 to see how some legacy files using ASCII box drawing characters would display. I have since changed back to UTF-8.

Does this also recreate in Safe Mode?

It does not. I meant to try that, but got sidetracked.

I guess that means there is some package causing the behavior. Correct?

Yes, this is an indication that a plugin may be doing something that’s making things unhappy. To narrow it down you would have to add the list of third party packages you’ve installed to the ignored_packages setting, verify that things work, and then slowly remove them and test until you find the culprit.

Thanks so much for your help. The culprit was Clipboard Manager. It’s probably a good time to do some plugin housekeeping.
