ST3 UI sluggish on new MacBook Pro 13 2020

#1

hello there!

been using ST for ages coz it’s super fast. but now strangely the UI is sluggish (showing/hiding sidebar) on a total new MBP 2020. ST runs flawlessly on my iMac 27 from 2012, same on a MacBook 12 from early 2016. so i’d expect it to be blazing fast on that new MBP (top CPU, 32gb ram). ST configurations are the same (synced). any idea what might be happening? console shows nothing particular. activity monitor neither. let me know what i need to provide. thanks!

Which version of macOS are you using? Have you tried reverting to a freshly installed state? Do you have "gpu_window_buffer" in your settings?

hi! thanks for the quick answer. i was coming to say i’ve found it’s the gpu_window_buffer setting, yeah (thought it was an issue with filevault at first, turned it off, crashed, had to format and reinstall, then i saw ST was ok. then i checked little by little). the setting was turned to false. now the thing is, if i set to true or auto, it’s fantastic on the MBP, but sluggish on the iMac and the MacBook. is there a way to set a config file that stays local. the preference is synced. thanks!

i ended up create a Default/Preferences.sublime-settings where i copied the default settings and changed the gpu setting to false on both my iMac and my MacBook. not the best, but it works. not sure what it does if i just edit this setting rather than copying everything. but when i open the settings, if i just edit the gpu setting, all the others seem gone from the default.

If you create a folder named Default in Packages you litterly overwrite the content from the shipped Default.sublime-packages file. I’d recomment to not do that as it causes all changes shipped with later updates to be ignored.

AFAIK the gpu_window_buffer: true causes sluggish behavior due to buggy OpenGL drivers in some MacOS builds.

yes, i’m aware of that, but currently i haven’t found any other way. i think i can cope with paying attention to that at each update (not often), but it would be nice to find a way to save local settings out of the User folder.
