[solved] No word count in status bar

I use sublime text 3 on Ubuntu Linux and see no word count in the status bar: even after selecting text it only displays the character count. Is this a setting I can influence and, if so, how?

I already tried reverting to a fresh install (renaming the config directory): sublime text still showed the same behaviour (no word count).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you, @Jackeroo.

I had tried this package before but it did not work. Now it does. The problem was that I had put it into Packages/User/Word Count. Putting it into Packages/Word Count (as per the instructions [here] (https://github.com/titoBouzout/WordCount)) does work.
