Is there any way to change this?
The sidebar tends to be a bit too attention-getting for my taste. I like to work with it open on projects, but I’d love to make it more subtle.

You can change the sidebar font size.
In your .sublime-theme, look for “class”: “sidebar_label” and add “font.size”: 10

Also in this message in the “Show off your Sublime Text 2 Setup” thread, prmaple gave an example of his sidebar with code, using a dark background to better match his color scheme, which was a great starting point for me.
