I second this request! I don’t use the mouse often, but when I do I miss this feature.

While the proposed behavior would not be too bad, the current reversing of the region is also not too bad (caret moves to begin if it was at the end and vice versa).

So, to do what you propose similarly, hold the alt key and drag from the desired location to the end of the selection and it will be subtracted from the selection.
