I have upgraded to ST4 on macOS, but the Sublime system files remain in
~/Library/Application Support/Sublime Text 3.
Granted, everything is working, but can the folder be renamed to simply /Sublime Text without causing a mess?

Yes (but best to do it while Sublime is not running).
Sublime Text 3 uses the Sublime Text 3 folder for it’s configuration data.
Sublime Text 4 prefers a folder named Sublime Text (and will create it as such if ST3 has never been run on this computer), but if the Sublime Text folder is not there, it will use Sublime Text 3 for backwards compatibility. If both are present, it will use the one named Sublime Text.
That allows for a seamless upgrade and also for you to run ST3 and ST4 on the same computer with separate configurations.
