Renaming files and more Finder integration on macOS

#1

Hi,
I’m moving away from Textwrangler as it’s no longer Catalina compatible.

Two things I use a lot with Textwrangler on MacOS are:

  • Right click on a text document in the side bar and use “Reveal in Finder”. Can’t see this option in SublimeText when opening a single txt file.

  • The ability of being able to rename a file in Finder whilst it’s open in TextWrangler. Normally the editor reflect the name change straight away, but If I try the same in Sublime text the editor think I’ve deleted the file and doesn’t update the name at all.

Any idea if both of the above points are possible ?

Thanks!

While the first requested function is provided by https://packagecontrol.io/packages/TabsExtra, the renaming detection sounds quite interesting.

Sounds like a feature request at https://github.com/sublimehq/sublime_text/issues would be a good idea to see what the core devs think about it. This request may be related with https://github.com/sublimehq/sublime_text/issues/677

The filesystem notification API of Windows provides information about renamed files and directories. So retargetting views should be possible. Not sure about the challanges required for Linux though.

Thanks. TabsExtra is good enough. Can Rename directly from Sublime and Reveal in Finder.

Much obliged. TabsExtra is adequate. Can Rename straightforwardly from Sublime and Reveal in Finder.
