reCAPTCHA (besides the fact that only an admin can enable it) has the disadvantage that modern spam often comes from “human botnets”, low-paid employees actually getting money for posting what looks like automated spam.
Probably new registrations should be moderated automatically instead.
The solution is to move to a Facebook group.
Let a billion dollar company do the work for you (both spam and maintenance… and it’s totally free no hosting required). I haven’t seen much spam in Facebook groups. You can make them private too. Also people tend to be politer when using their real names too.
Most people don’t use forums these days.

The wrong thing is that Atom has a very active community and development. If time passes and webassembly is added for performance gains, sublime will die soon. Cause the development is too slow. If jps can’t develop sublime, it is better to hire someone (or a team) to do it, but people who have paid don’t deserve this total silence.

I would be able to use it (in fact I did on some other site) if I were interested in letting the Atom website execute JavaScripts on my computer. I can’t see why I should do that.
I don’t open any files from a suspicious source.
That has been fixed for years. That said, my browser does not load images from third-party sites unless explicitly allowed to.
Or just avoid suspicious sources to load malware on my computer - a sophisticated spam filter (including the one in my brain) and an ad and JS blocker are doing wonderous things with my overall security.

The worst thing that could happen on Atom’s Discourse is someone exploiting one of the numerous holes in my browser’s JavaScript implementation to pretty much take over my browser, including everything I type.
