Poor performance of ST 4

#1

Hi, thanks for the sublime text, it’s the best text editor and I like it, I always use it to analyze the large log file.

But after I updated to ST 4 recently, I get very poor performance when I open a 100MB log file and try to scroll or search keywords in ST 4, I tried to turn on the GPU acceleration by “hardware_acceleration” : “opengl”, but not luckily. Finally I have to revert to ST 3.

Could anyone tell me how to get the ST 4 as fast as the ST 3?
I’m using windows 10.

Thanks

I don’t know, it’s just updated automatically, then restarted.

There is known scrolling performance issue in ST 4. Not sure what kind of performance you mean.

When I upgraded to ST4 I experienced very bad performance and choppy scrolling.
I then realized something surprising: Sublime Text was using 100% CPU!
After searching this forum, I discovered this is a recurring problem after Sublime Text upgrades dating back to 2013. An “index” is rebuilt at major upgrades.
If you are experiencing slow ST4, look under “Help” menu and choose “Indexing status”.
If there is a complicated operation happening in the Indexing Status dialog, you have found your culprit for the slow performance.
I left indexing running overnight and in the morning all performance issues had disappeared (regardless of what I set the GPU setting to).
Now I just have to deal with the ST4 bugs…
