Hi,
I use the official pacman repositories for ST3 from: https://www.sublimetext.com/docs/3/linux_repositories.html. However, with my most recent update it downloaded ST4. Is there any way to get ST3 from the official repositories? I only have a licence for ST3 and I don’t want to pay to upgrade it to ST4.
Official pacman repository for ST3 has ST4 in it
That was a question that I was asking myself yesterday when I upgraded one of my Ubuntu installations just to see what the new version looked like. It was only after I had upgraded did I see that there was no way to downgrade back to version 3. Silly me.
Shouldn’t there have been a warning for those using the repositories that once we’ve upgraded there is no way back?
The only .debs of ST3 that I have saved are that of quite old development versions. I don’t like the idea of downloading the tarball of the final release of ST3 as that is not how I like to manage installing software on my very stable Ubuntu LTS installations. I’ve no wish to install ST by any other means.
If a .deb version of the final ST3 release can be provided then I’ll happily stay a Sublime Text 3 user as I can’t justify the upgrade fee for my rather limited use of the editor.
As I feel that this probably won’t happen let’s part on good terms.
So, I’ll say thanks for the last seven years that I have had use of ST3. It served me well.

Unfortunately we don’t have links to the stable builds on the website, but every version we’ve released is still available from the same URLs. The ST3 development packages are available here: https://www.sublimetext.com/3dev, and here’s the 3211 deb: https://download.sublimetext.com/sublime-text_build-3211_amd64.deb
Excellent.
.deb installed and with repositories removed there’s no prompt to upgrade.
The upgrade prompt may be showing soon, as we haven’t pushed ST4 to our auto-updater yet. You can disable update checks in the settings if you have a license.
Is there a way to disable the auto updater, I don’t want to be updated pls ?
I’ve put (in my Preferences file)
"update_check": false,
will that do the trick ? I’d like to keep my internet on and not be upgraded against my wishes please…
Ta
Is there anyway to stop the update. I don’t want to be updated to ST4.
I’m still on a 32 bit machine, which works fine for my needs
Will I be updated to ST4 whether I want to be or not? Because if so, that’s very unpleaseant… (using the most diplomatic language I have to hand)
Again I was going to do some work, and yet here I am, backing up my tarballs of ST3 (and disc structure) and worrrying about whether all the work I’ve put into ST3 is about to go down the hole, for an upgrade I don’t want (yet maybe).
Thanks for your responce
If you’re using the Linux repositories you can either pin the version or simply stop using the repositories as there won’t be any more updates to ST3. If you’re not on Linux then you can’t disable update checks without a license key, either evaluate the latest version or deal with dismissing the dialog.
How to Pin the Version or Stop Using the Repositories
Thank you. Posted a new question but sorted most of it. The bit I haven’t sorted is do I need to delete the key too ? I’m just wondering if I did want to upgrade to ST4 at some point in the distant future…
Anyway I see you’re busy, thanks for the reply !
