No settings user

#1

I just installed Sublime Text 3 (build 3143) and in my preferences it says:

Settings
Settings - Syntax Specific
Settings - Distraction Free

Whereas everywhere else I look their preferences seem to say:

Settings
Settings - User
etc

All I wanted to do was install some colour schemes (themes??). I installed them through package control but they’re nowhere to be found even after a restart. There seems to be no response from Sublime when installing a package so I’ve no idea whether it’s started or indeed finished installing.

If you installed the packages successfully, you can select them from the UI: Select Theme and UI: Select Color Scheme commands in the Command Palette (ctrl+shit+p).

You can see if the packages are being installed by looking at the left side of the status bar. But you have to look quickly as most packages install quickly.

Yes they’re not installed. Not sure whether they are supposed to be themes are color schemes anyway. So you have no idea about my problem? Why don’t I have 'Settings - User" ?

because Preferences -> Settings - User is a legacy menu item, which has been replaced by Preferences -> Settings in build 3116, so anything you read that was written before 22 June 2016 is probably out of date.

Ok and are Color Schemes/Themes also deprecated? If not is there a way to install them because installing them through package control doesn’t seem to do anything. I managed to install other packages without issue. If there is a way to install color schemes can you tell me what it is as of this build ?

the process for installing packages, including those providing color schemes and themes hasn’t changed. When you try to install a package, if you open the ST console (View menu -> Show Console), what is displayed at the bottom of the console? Any error messages, or lines indicating successful package installation?

That’s weird the console is saying:

File “package_control.package_installer in /Users/hasen/Library/Application Support/Sublime Text 3/Installed Packages/Package Control.sublime-package”, line 154, in on_done
File “package_control.package_disabler in /Users/hasen/Library/Application Support/Sublime Text 3/Installed Packages/Package Control.sublime-package”, line 76, in disable_packages
ImportError: No module named ‘package_control’

?? How in the world has that happened ? I just tried installing package control again as instructed here both manually and through the console but it still shows the same error. https://packagecontrol.io/installation

I already installed a couple of other packages through the package control yesterday as well…how can it suddenly be gone ?

I reinstalled it all and deleted the folder in application support and it’s all working now. Not sure how it ended up like that. Thanks for the advice about the console that shows clearly what’s going on with a package installation.
