"New version available" should not apply to paid upgrades

#1

I own a license for Sublime Text 3. I am at version 3.2.2, which, per the changelog page for Sublime 3, is the latest version. However, because Sublime Text 4 is now available, I get a popup when I start the application to update. A month ago, I clicked on this and it either installed Sublime 4 or took me to the Sublime 4 download page. Now, it errors without explanation.

Either way, this download popup should not appear since if I click it, I will not have a license for Sublime Text 4 and will be bugged to purchase one. I do not expect a professional product that I purchased a license for to nag me at every start. Once here or there may be understandable, especially for a more independent operation like Sublime. Or perhaps a “tip of the day” that tells me that Sublime 4 is now available. I intend to use my license for 3 for years to come.

Please remove this popup or make it only display once and no more once dismissed for Sublime 3 users who have purchased a license.

Add "update_check": false to your Preferences.sublime-settings file to turn off update checks.

Reinstall Sublime Text 3 and do as Odatnurd wrote.

Assuming there will never be another release of Sublime 3, that works. However, if there’s ever any patch update (security issue, compatibility issue, etc), this would stop me from getting said update. Though seems unlikely given that it hasn’t been updated since 2019.

If support has officially ended, then Sublime 3 should be packaged with update notifications disabled by default.

But then people wouldn’t hear about the availability of ST4 which seems less than ideal

No, that’s actually worse. You want to push your users to use the latest supported version. Not the other way around. If some users, want to use the older unsupported version, then that’s on them; their problem.
