My .js files don't work as a javascript file. It's more like a text file

Can you check that the selected syntax is JavaScript. It should say it in the bottom right corner of sublime

It says R console, if I change I to javascript it works.
But when I close and open the file I says R console again.
Is there a way so I don’t have to change that every time I open a javascript file in sublime text?

If you use the menu View > Syntax > Open all with current extension as… > JavaScript you can make Sublime Text open all files with a .js extension using the JavaScript syntax.
