More identifiable tabs in ST3

#1

So I’m new to ST in general, and I’ve started with ST3. The tabs are driving me a bit nuts–it’s really hard to tell which one is active, and I actually had a case today where the tab that was active was in the tab stack, so it was nearly impossible to find it. (I noticed a slim sliver of slightly brighter pixels.)

I’ve seen some of the themes, and many seem to have tabs that are underlined in different colours (blue for active, orange for modified, I think?) and that would be just fine, but installing the themes themselves doesn’t actually seem to bequeath that functionality on me. Am I doing something wrong, or am I seeing screenshots of people running ST2? Is there some other way to make the tabs more prominent?

Depends on the theme you are using. Usually these things can also be toggled via a setting (simply meaning that out of the box, the theme may not highlight tabs like you want, but with a setting, they can).

What theme are you using that is supposed make tabs more visible?

Both of my themes (Freesia and Nil, links in signature) highlight the active tab by default (and this can’t be disabled since I don’t know why anyone would). Others may require settings specific to each theme, which should be detailed in their respective READMEs. To enable modified tab highlights in almost any theme, the custom is to set highlight_modified_tabs to true in your settings, since this applies to the default theme and therefore is a kind of standard.

Okay, I’ve switched to your Freesia theme, and in so doing, I found that I had an option from a previous theme buried in there, and it was affecting the look of my tabs. This works out, since it really darkens everything up the way I like. Thanks!
