Make Japanese input in ST more convenient

Hello,

Thank you very much for all the hard work on ST!

Actually, I tend to input Japanese text a lot in my text editor on Windows, but unfortunately, it is very inconvenient as of now, it seems:

As you can see, as I type Japanese, the cursor remains empty, and the suggested list is populated at the very bottom, and once I select and finalize a candidate, the whole text suddenly appears at the cursor position. This makes it extremely distracting and difficult to type in Japanese text…

Is there any way to change this behavior? If not, it would be great if something were done to change this behavior.

It seems the issue occurs with any person wanting to use CJK IME input, and appears to be known for about 3 years now.

I don’t want to sound like a jerk, but is a fix incoming soon?

At this point you'll have to wait until a dev cycle where I can spend some time unravelling the myriad of libraries, options and implementation requirements related to IME on Linux and Windows. We have some cursory implementation right now that sort-of works with scim on Linux, but apparently something about the API calls we are using doesn't play nice with IBUS, and we don't currently have a way to show the preedit string.
