Mac OS High Sierra - cannot open any files

I’m on OS X 10.13.6 - as of the past 4 days, both with the new update and the last update before this to OS X, Sublime build 3176 cannot:

  • create new files
  • open old files

Sublime itself opens, but nothing happens thereafter. Tried restarting my computer, reinstalling 3176 and same issue. I am using the free version so not sure if it expires after a certain time and can no longer be used full featured?
