Lost all session

#1

Without any apparent reason (maybe there was a system crash?) I opened ST and all my session was gone. The split windows, the opened files, the temporary files that I had not saved yet and always expected to be there when opening ST… Everything! Gone!

I looked for “Session.sublime-session” and “Auto Save Session.sublime_session” without any luck. The former was an old one from 2021 and the latter did’t exist and data recovery software reported the file as overwritten by some other file.

After all the pain from a data loss, I want to prevent this for the future. Is there a way in ST to save X number of sessions? In a way that I can specify “back up the session and all temporary content once every hour (OR when ST is closed), and keep 10 of these backup sessions”

Thanks

Hi

Sorry for what happened to you.

I have been using Sublime for years and never experience anything like that. Windows had system crashes, I was terminating sublime process if it was unresponsive and it always opened fine.
Since you get no response I presume others also do not have similar experience with sublime.

Sorry, but have no solution for you, just that I am surprised with your experience.
Good luck.

" … the temporary files that I had not saved yet and always expected to be there when opening ST", a bad habit to get into. Ctrl+S should be a muscle memory that you invoke after every significant change. “… data recovery software reported the file as overwritten by some other file.” tells you the problem. Track down ‘who’ that file belongs to and work backwards from there to why the owning process/user overwrote the ST contents. Also look at backing up your ~/sublime-text/ directory on a regular basis to another location via the backup/sync software of your choice, as well as your project directory.
