Long time heavy SublimeText user moving to Atom

#1

I’m a developer who has been using SublimeText 12+ hours a day for last 3 years. I’m not happy with how the software is handled - it’s unstable, bugs take long to fix (e.g. plugin manager crashes, high CPU load). Also it starts to outdated, meaning other editors are adding modern features while at the same time retaining the simple, non-intrusive interface popularized by TextMate and of course SublimeText.

Long story short, I’ve been struggling w/ SublimeText’s issues, decided to try Atom. Loving the editor and the community. It starts up a bit slow but after that no problems. Very flexible (tabs, panes). Writing plugins super easy. Flexible api. Can suggest, satisfaction guaranteed!

So all the best to the Sublime world! I hope you’ll put some new life into the once so great editor so I can come back & give some more $$ for your efforts

One thing I notice with Sublime is that many plugins causes startup to slow down a lot, so for me Atom actually starts faster (I think they do plugin loading in parallell.) Besides, I tend to keep Atom running all the time, so opening files and projects is practically instant.

I keep Sublime running in case a massive update get downloaded  It’s just too buggy to use on el capitan.

I would recommend to create a new forum cathegory besides “general discussions” etc. named “Atom - the superior Sublime” because it seems there are so many people who have an urgent desire to enlighten everyone why they think Atom is better and that from now on they use Atom.

A slightly better idea is to implement a better forum to stop all the spamming. Once Sublime HQ start fixing bugs and releasing new versions, I’m sure the Atom movement stops. But neither of those things are likely to happen any time soon. This is TextMate 1 all over again :frowning:

“Atom, the Sublime for whiners” seems to be a more appropriate title.

Maybe we should go to the Atom forums and spam them about why we still have Sublime Text on our computers. It seems to be appropriate behavior for those kids.

And we’re off topic.
