License not maintained over synced Application Support

#1

Hi, I keep applying my license for sublime text, but then after a day or so it becomes “unregistered”. This for macOS and i keep my ~/Library/Application Support/Sublime Text/ dir in a sync location. I suspect the sync (using Synology Drive) is causing this issue.

When i add the license in, the .sublime_license file does change to what it was previously.

Because i have to do this on multiple computers that share the same sync, i presume the license has some component that ties it to a specific machine - hence why the license file becomes incompatible?

In any case, it would be nice to have an official way to sync the support data that could be synced.

The license indeed is an encoded binary format that includes machine specific details so that if it gets accidentally leaked it won’t work on other computers.

If you create a text file with the same name as the license file has, whose content is your license key (the same text that you insert into the license dialog), Sublime will read it and treat it as a license without having a machine specific component; though in that case you need to be careful that the file is not synced in a way that might be public.

We have documentation on portable license keys here: https://www.sublimetext.com/docs/portable_license_keys.html
