Short story:
I bought Sublime some years ago around the introduction to version 3
I wanted to support development
I started sublime some months back and it said to upgrade - without any warning this upgrade would cause me to pay.
I have been stuck in Sublime 4 hell.
I FINALLY did all the research
I innocently (up/down)graded Sublime from 4 ->3 by downloading it
I got freaking sick of the you have to update
I found and entered; “update_check”: false,
It didn’t work, after more struggles I found in a forum that I had to be licensed. Crap, Sublime threw away my license.
Fine - I entered my license
Nope - it says that is not a valid license
I spend more time in another editor and play with different formats.
Yep after 20 minutes I figure out how to clear whatever unprintable crap is in the license (the pdf of the email you sent me which worked before) and get it to license
The core problem I think is that I and the FOSS world has grown, and you haven’t. I used to use FOSS because as a compromise. I supported FOSS because I wanted it to get better. It now is. Had Sublime been FOSS, I wouldn’t have this blood hungry Microsoft Like nuisance. I am sick of this crap, and your product. I am contemplating my next move - guess what, it’s not going to be you. I think I need a universal FOSS editor that is shipped or available for most Distros + Win+Mac if possible. I will keep searching, it’s time for us to go our separate ways.
Brevity is in the eye of the beholder I guess.
