I haven’t found one that actually works well enough that I can ditch the separate Mac apps Marked or Markoff.

I don’t see anything wrong with using an external app for this though. Just arrange the windows side by side.

You can even use a Build System for markdown files to launch the external app

yes. and having to use another app just for markdown is quite annoying.

is it because our package api is less open than vscode or atom?

Some markdown previewers will update the rendering when you save the file – Typora does this (cross platform markdown editor and renderer) and Marked for Mac also does it.

I usually use Typora because I like to be able to edit the opened markdown in a nice blend of WYSIWYG and code (the current line that you’re editing), and doing larger editing jobs in ST.

It’s because sublime text is in fact not a web browser and only implements a limited subset of HTML and css features named minihtml. That’s why this is so easy on vscode and atom, but als why they are slower.
