Installed Sublime Text on latest Ubuntu and it keeps asking for a product key

#1

Hey all,

First time here. I actually made this account just to ask this question. I just installed Sublime Text 3 onto my Ubuntu partition (it is the latest Ubuntu) but it keeps on asking me for a product key. It is written on the website that it can be downloaded and evaluated for free and that currently there is no time limit on the amount of time it can be evaluated. Is there any way to bypass the product key window?

Thanks!!!

If it’s asking you for a license key, you’re trying to run a development build. The builds you can download from https://www.sublimetext.com/3dev are for registered users only:

Sublime Text 3 dev builds are currently available to registered users only.

If you download the latest stable version from https://www.sublimetext.com/3 you can evaluate it without any limitations.

The only difference between the evaluation version and the licensed version is that the evaluation version reminds you every so often on a file save that you should purchase it if you use it and find it useful. No functionality is missing or constrained in any way.

Thanks. Yeah it looks like I accidentally downloaded the Dev one. Uninstalled and reinstalled the Stable one and it works fine now
