Frequently I’m getting excessively high memory throughout the day in my plugin process
is there a way to narrow down which plugins might be misbehaving?

Probably not without disabling some of them and seeing if it fixed the problem. But if you post your list of plugins here, someone might spot a known resource hog to try first.

Sorry for the late reply
I found tools -> developer -> profile plugins helped a little bit in identifying the plugin I think it was the xdebug plugin causing this
