How to change side bar file icons when running a command?

#1

I’ve got couple of commands that cut/copy/paste files from the side bar and I think it’d be nice to change the side bar icons when I’ve run let’s say the cut command. Making the icons lighter ones or just more transparent, so the user knows they’ve been cut. Is this possible achieve somehow? If it’s so, how?

Thanks.

There’s no plugin API for interacting with the side bar and only themes can modify the icons associated with file types.

So it’s probably technically possible to create this effect to a degree by having a plugin rewrite your theme to alter the icon used, but you would end up making every file of that type have a different icon and not just the one you’re operating on, which is probably less than ideal,

@OdatNurd That’s what I suspected… thanks to confirm, I guess I’ll forget about it then… I asked in case it was possible to implement without any impact on performance or without relying on exoteric tricks… “Problem” right now is as a user you don’t really know what you’ve cut (well, i mean, if don’t clear you’ll have the selection, but that will be lost)… which it’s not cool :stuck_out_tongue:
