How many column tab character is?

when I was calculate the column number by java, I was compare the result with source file open by sublime text.
but I found that tab character not always take just one column in sublime, so I compare to note and other editor. they all take one.

“\t” = 1 or 2 or 3 or … more column

so, is this a bug ? or it just such?

Depends what you have it set to. Look in the bottom right corner. It’ll say something like “Tab Size: 4”. If the auto detect indent setting is true, it may vary from file to file (if it isn’t consistent).
