How does find-in-files // project-relative patterns work?

I was taking a look at ST’s latest CHANGELOG. It says:

Find-in-files now supports project-relative patterns starting with //

I was wondering how this works.

//foo only includes the foo folder at the root of any of the folders you’ve opened.
