How do I get a folder pane?

#1

I’ve just watched a video where a folder was dragged to the Sublime icon in the Windows toolbar and up popped Sublime with a folder pane to the left and file contents shown on the right. However, that doesn’t work for me. So, how do I achieve the same result?

Thanks.

I guess you mean taskbar? can you link to the video? maybe it works slightly differently on different Windows versions?

in addition to the drag functionality, you can also add a folder to ST and have it display in the sidebar on the left using the Project menu -> Add Folder to Project…

Yes, taskbar. I couldn’t remember the name for it.

The video is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3nCXVJXe_gg and it’s about 50 seconds in.

I’m using Win 8.1 and Sublime 3.

that video shows a Mac, but on Windows 7, although dragging files onto the taskbar icon works whether ST was open already or not, dragging folders doesn’t.

You could follow the steps at https://github.com/SublimeTextIssues/Core/issues/113 to be able to just right click on the folder and select “Open in Sublime Text” - seems like it would be less hassle than dragging it. But, if you really want to drag it, open an ST window first and drag it to that. It could be a Windows limitation that folders can’t be dragged to other applications on the taskbar.

You can also drag files or folder onto a desktop link, which should have the same effect. Windows executes a .lnk target or an .exe with the dragged file’s/folder’s path as an argument.
