How do I close sub-panels

How can I close these blank panels ?

If those panes have been created dynamically, hitting ctrl+w destroys them.

Otherwise layout can be set to “single group” by hitting alt+shift+1 (see also: Main Menu > View > Layout... )

I usually go to the View menu, where you can find options to show or hide various panels. If a panel is currently open, choosing its corresponding menu option should close it.
