Have not used SM in a very long time, have questions

#1

First off, please accept my apologies for what could be a set of very ignorant questions, or at least out of date ones, but here goes!

When I first started using SM, it was installed via package control and a license could be entered, and diff functions could be accessed from inside ST.

Currently, I seem to have landed on another planet. I have both ST and SM installed in my macbook, and I entered my combined license from August 2024 which both apps accepted just fine.

  • How do I access SM from inside of ST? Is this even possible anymore?
  • Can I diff files that are not in git repositories?
  • I seem to recall using Ctl-Alt-D (in windows) to diff two open files and then be able to step through each change found and either go on to the next change, copy from left to right, or copy from right to left.

Can anyone let me know if I am hallucinating, or has SM basically changed into a "Diff"erent tool thatn what I recall.

I’m sorry if this is all old territory.

Hi @TomP,

Thank you for reaching out and for supporting Sublime HQ!

Sublime Merge is the official Git Client made by us (Sublime HQ).
There used to be a third-party package in Sublime Text called sublimerge, however this no longer exists.

As an additional note, you can diff files in Sublime Text by multi-selecting the files in the sidebar (or tabs) and selecting the Diff menu item.

Let me know if you have any additional questions!

Cheers,
- Dylan from Sublime HQ

Dylan,

Thank you for responding so quickly. You are exactly right! It was “sublimerge” I was thinking of.

I will have to do more research on how the sidebar diff works.

Again. Thanks to ALL who have made ST such a great tool.
