Hello. I wanted to suggest an improvement idea. I visited the Sublime Text website and immediately saw a link to this forum. So I wanted to post the improvement idea there. I made a search to make sure my improvement idea wasn’t suggested before.
Then suddenly I saw a link to a GitHub issue in one of the forum discussions. “Whoa, they have a GitHub issues page, with 1.9k issues! And there, you can also post feature requests!”
So, my original search for duplicates was for nothing, because there is a whole lot of issues to search among on GitHub as well. I think I’ll now grow skeptical of warnings in repos that say “Hey, search for duplicates before posting!”, provided that my effort to search for duplicates this time was not respected. This is not a good UX.
Besides, this GitHub repo is not mentioned in a prominent place on the Forum, and vice versa. This is not a good UX.
Eventually I got confused where I should post the suggestion. I decided to post here, but I’ll not be suprised if someone jumps up to me saying “Hey, this is for the GitHub. Why are you posting here? Read the Rules [gives a link to some low-discoverability page]”.
My suggestion is to:
- Either remove the affordance to create a feature request here, or on GitHub.
- Link to GitHub on a prominent place on the Forum, and vice versa.
