[FIXED] Dev Build 3060 - Update requires elevated permission

#1

When I try to update the Windows portable version of ST3 from 3058 to 3061, I’m prompted with a request for the admin password (which I don’t have). I have very restricted access on my work PC, which is why I use the portable version (which does not require elevated privileges to install or use). I guess that this is a side effect of the python upgrade? I have had no problems in the past to update.

Community members, please don’t reply with “it works for me”. I believe that my access is more restricted than most other users.

How much more so? I would also consider my access much more restricted than for most people as well. Do you have some way of quantifying the level of restrictiveness?

But that may be a good way for Jon to isolate the problem.

Not that it’s relevant to Windows, but for the record the upgrade to 3061 worked for me on OSX even with (what I think are) severe access restrictions.

I just wanted to avoid off-topic posts so that Jon might actually notice the thread and investigate. From my limited understanding, access rights in OSX (and Unix in general) are much simpler and clearer/cleaner than in Windows. Why do I believe that my system is more restricted than others? From experience looking for ways to use various tools or customizing Windows and finding almost no people people who have similarly restrictive access.

Update works again without requiring elevated permissions. Thanks @jps
