Files have disappeared

#1

Since installing sublime, the files edited have never shown up outside of the open file ui. Whatever, I’d figure that out later, they reliably showed up for the ui, so it meant they were there.

Several hours and hundreds of lines of code later…

And they won’t show up for anything. I had to move the files, and I updated to sublime 4, but before moving everything, I had made a backup of the folder sublime was reading from. Even the backup doesn’t show the files as existing whatsoever, ui or not.

So all that work’s down the drain, I guess…

This is just to let the devs know. I’m kind of done with this program, cuz nothin’ takes the wind out of my sails like having several hours of meticulous code architecture mysteriously disappear, and I won’t be making that mistake again.

Why not paste some screenshots - the files appearing in Sublime filter manager but then not in the Folder…

You don’t mention what OS you use, or where you saved the files, or how long you’ve been using sublime, or anything else with any substance. You say that you updated to Sublime 4 - what where you using before, 3? How long did you have Sublime 2/3 installed before you upgraded to 4?

I won’t say this post is 100% a troll just yet… But yea. Something doesn’t smell right.

Could it be that you are still working in scratch files but haven’t actually saved them anywhere locally? Or files on a network drive, remote location etc?

As @tjh states, you would need to provide more detail to get a better answer.

The last time someone reported files disappearing it was a failing drive. Given that no-one else has reported this issue, there’s certainly something strange going on.

Try running a ripgrep command across your entire system hunting for some internal “content” you remember. I often resort to that. Apply date filters if necessary. They might be dredged from the deep. If your are in Windows there is also testdisk for failed drive theory.
