File lost after Sublime crashed

#1

Hello everybody,

I was working on a file for several hours (saving each 10min or so), the computer went to hibernation, when I refreshed it, ST launched a popup saying it was an error and it have to close, with my file open.

When I refreshed it, the file was empty, 0k, it still preserves the time everything happened in the properties, as well as the name, of course, but nothing more.

Is it there something I can do?

Thanks!
K

What version of ST are you using? Did you save the empty file from ST before exiting? If not is the file non-empty but just empty when restored by ST?

Hi Benjamin,
sorry but I answer your mail yesterday. I just realized I have to do it here after receiving the delivery error.

My version is Build 4143.

No, I didn’t save it empty.

The file is totally empty, since its size is 0k.

Thanks

What exact error did ST show? Was it simply not responding?

Yep, I remember a popo up saying something like “it was an error and SB has to close down” with a button to accept.
The file was open, probably unsaved for the last 10 minutes.
After that I re-opened the file but it was totally empty, and I realized that its size was 0k.

Just to confirm: This was a prompt by the OS? Fwiw I don’t see how ST could be the cause of the empty file unless perhaps it crashed while saving. You may be able to recover an older version of the file by looking at the backup sessions; they should be next to the normal session file: https://superuser.com/questions/894021/where-does-sublime-text-store-its-un-saved-windows.

Exactly, a prompt by Windows 11, just like user describes in that post. BTW I can’t find the backup files in any of the routes described there. I found 4 files in the directory from ST but all of them contains historic list of files open, but not the files itself.
