File doesn't remember being modified even though I ran said saved file on terminal

#1

I thought I was going crazy with deja vu, because I could have sworn I made tiny edits to some of the scripts I have been working with. But now something major happened.

I completely changed a script that had last been worked on 7 days ago. I completely changed most of the code, so everything about it is different. I kept saving the file I was tweaking it, and constantly reading it into my ipython session in terminal. Whenever bugs arose, I went back to the script and fixed the issue, saved the file, and reran it on ipython. The file had 100% been saved, and the file paths never changed. I did not change git branches (i didn’t touch git all week). I even have an output file properly saved.

But now when I went back to the file a few hours later to change a comment to include some information, the entire file had reverted back to the one written 7 days ago. In the folder explorer, it says the last time the file was modified was 3/6/2019. It completely doesn’t remember that I edited the file!

I’m at a complete loss here, because I spent half a day working on that script, and for it to disappear? Sure I can rewrite it, but this means that those inconsistent reverting of minor tweaks is also happening. I don’t know what the issue is, and I can’t exactly be diligent in saving files and checking they were actually saved, when a few hours later the save might disappear.

All help appreciated!

Solved-ish.

For some odd reason, even though I was opening the file to edit, through the file explorer, the script was saved in the parent folder. I’m guessing when I ran it on cmd I somehow didn’t go those two children folders in. Eh, not exactly sure what happened. But I’ll see if I can recreate the issue to ‘solve’ it.
