Dragging a tab to create a new window is slow

#1

Hello,

Since the last sublime text 3 update if have some performance issues.

When I drag a tab outside my main window to create a new window the tab is moving very very slowly from its original position to my mouse position.

I’m on Ubuntu 16.04 with gnome-shell 3.18.5

Have a nice day!

Which version (build number) of Sublime Text did you upgrade from, and what are you using now?

I’m in version 3126 now and I always update my sublime when there is a new release. So I should have upgraded from the previous one I guess?

Thanks

It’s kinda noticeable on any platform (tested on Windows 7, Ubuntu 16.04 with Mate and with Gnome), but seems much worse in Gnome - higher CPU usage and more lag. I don’t see any difference between 3114 and 3126 builds, however.

How slowly is it moving for you (are you able to share a video demonstrating it?) and what is your CPU usage like before and while dragging?

I made a quick video that shows the issue and its more complicated than that after some testing.
I work with dual screen and I noticeed the issue when I drag the tab to my other screen where there is always my chromium.
And the slow effect is only when I’m over chromium !
When I’m over my desktop or another sublime instance it is ok.
You will notice on the video how slow it is ! :slightly_smiling:

wow, yeah it is slow to catch up over Chromium, isn’t it! CPU usage does indeed seem to spike a bit over Chromium. I’m guessing it’s to do with how the tab is drawn, how it detects the background where it should be transparent etc. There are drawing related issues when dragging tabs on Windows which could be related: https://github.com/SublimeTextIssues/Core/issues/1290
