'Drag text' not implemented in Linux

From the .settings file:

// When drag_text is enabled, clicking on selected text will begin a
// drag-drop operation. This is not currently implemented under Linux.
"drag_text": true,

Why is it not implemented? Its absence irritates. The linux editor Xed (based on gedit) can do it, so why can’t Sublime? (I’m using Sublime 3, development version - on Linux and Windows. Or Windows, the operation works fine).

I guess there is some technical reason relating to ST’s selection implementation on Linux, i.e. there are other Linux specific selection problems:
