Drag and Drop Files in Sidebar on Windows 7?

#1

I spent $70 on Sublime a few days ago because my first impressions were extremely positive when compared to Atom. But now that I’m actually attempting to use it in production I’m seeing I can’t do anything productive with the sidebar. How the heck do I drag and drop files in the sidebar?

I don’t think there’s any way you can drag & drop within the sidebar.

You can use SideBarEnhancements to add a bunch of useful features, including copy, paste, move, etc.

SideBarGit is also pretty useful.

Wow. This was definitely a pre-mature buying decision. What the hell? Sticking with Atom. Going to request a refund.

Whatever works. There are going to be pros & cons either way.

I think Atom is promising, but find it to be unusably slow compared to ST.
( especially multi-caret functionality, which I use excessively ).

Atom has some pretty cool UI features since it’s pretty much a web app, but from my personal experience I find that ST has a much more comprehensive set of community driven enhancements & overall better performance.

Light Table has my interest more than anything with it’s code watches & live rendering, but it’s also noticeably slower than ST.

I’d love to have all the best features from each of them, but at the end of the day it comes down to performance, so I’ll stick with ST for now.
( definitely will be keeping up with Atom & LightTable to see how they develop though  )

Hehe, excuse the frustration. It was just hugely disappointing that such a simple feature is lacking. It’s a feature that I must take for granted in every other editor I’ve ever used. I’m genuinely baffled how such a feature could somehow not be included in the core package. I tried the sidebar enhancements plugin and it really didn’t help speed up the process much; I might as well just open in explorer rather than go through that right click + type-new-path nonsense.

Atom is a really nice editor, the package manager is rather neat. Atom is noticeably slower when opening files and such, but I’m on a Core i7 with a SSD, so I can’t say a 50ms lag difference between opening a file in Atom or Sublime is really that noteworthy. Either one is light years ahead of Netbeans in terms of performance (Netbeans was my workspace before switching to Atom).

Anywho, I’ve got an email sent to sales@ to see about a refund. If they don’t grant it, I won’t complain too much. I guess it serves me right for not trying a few days of full-production before buying a license (I don’t mind paying for software I like, hence why there wasn’t much delay). :innocent:

Yeah, Sublime’s sidebar isn’t its most feature-rich component. To be honest, though, I sometimes forget it even exists; I’ve found that avoiding the mouse as much as possible is a boon to productivity overall. Whatever floats your boat, though.

Cheers. If I don’t get a refund then it’ll be a tool I can keep tabs on (pardon the pun), and maybe drag-and-drop files will get added in the future.
